It only blows hot defrost. climate control not working at all. Have no book.

The vacuum to the dash is the first problem. Get that fixed and you should have all the airflow positions back. That older system was the first generation atc, and used a temp. sensor under the dash pad to control the a/c function. It also used a vacuum servo to control the blend door. Thus it is possible, that by repairing the vacuum supply line to the dash, that it all may start working like it should. As long as the a/c system under the hood still functions, that is. But that is where to begin, and good luck!!

2000 Daewoo looses lots of coolant !?!?

My car has been sporadically getting hot...I found no steam, or drips, in the beginning, but now, I must fill the water collant all the time. There is water drips in the center midlle under the engine. However my air conditioner also drips. which makes things confusing to me.

If you are constantly adding coolant and there are no external leaks then you have to be burning it. A blown head gasket sounds like the culprit to me! A bad water pump would not require you to refill the coolant unless it's seal was leaking and you would see a puddle under the car. As far as the condensate from your air conditioner that will be nice clear clean water which you should easily be able to distinguish from coolant. Hope this helps, good luck!

To claim something to be more energy efficient than another, that thing would have to do its purpose as well or better using less energy.

Reticon (a Yahoo! Answers Asker) asked a question ifference between a humidifier and a evaporative/swamp cooler? I answered him with this:

We refer to window units as swamp coolers here in Louisiana. Real swamp coolers actually wouldn't cool us off down here; as an evaporative cooler the true swamp cooler wouldn't be able to cool the water in our air in addition to the water on the pads (inside of the machine). True swamp coolers use the process of evaporation to cool air. Like when you fan yourself, you are passing moving air by moisture, the act of that moisture evaporating is what makes you feel cooler. Essentially the act of the water evaporating off the pads is what makes the air cool. A humidifer (Lord help if anyone owns one down here) makes dry and uncomfortable air a little more, well, humid.

With that being said, even though you didn't ask about humidifiers you can see that a swamp cooler works best in dryer climates. A window AC uses a lot more energy because it doesn't simply cool the air by process of evaporation, it cools it off by compressing the refigerant (usually freon or some other flourocarbon). By doing this the freon becomes a hot high pressure gas. Once its turned to gas it goes through multiple coils. As its going through the coils the heat is evenly dispersed and the freon goes from gas to liquid. Once becoming a liquid it goes through and expansion valve, the liquid evaporates and turns into a cool gas with low pressure. Now as a cool low-pressure gas it goes through a second series of coils while absorbing heat and cooling air. Window units have to sets of fans, one to blow the hot air outside and the cool air inside.

So obviously with more processes comes more use of energy to complete the process.

Well, I took a look around, and that does appear to be a very good deal, pricewise, and most of the casement a/c s seem to be at least 8000 BTUs.

I dont know anything about the manufacturer, but Walmart has very liberal return policies, so if it dies, you should be able to return it.

Unless I am missing something, it is just an air conditioner - no evaporation involved.

I dont know why people are talking about evaporative coolers....maybe they think it looks like one.

In my house we do not have central air, and the only widows I have are a large double set of sliding windows.
