air filter home

If I remove the air filter on my home's AC, will that damage it?

It's very hot in Arizona and I get much more airflow without a filter on my AC. It feels good now, but will it damage my AC to run it without a filter?

YES IT WILL DAMAGE IT!!!!

If your coils get clogged with dust your coil will eventually flood liquid refrigerant down the suction line to the compressor due to lack of air flow.

This can cause 2 major problems. The first would likely be that the oil in the crankcase could be washed out and your compressor would suffer from poor lubrication and a shortened life.

The second is that if your compressor piston cylinder is flooded with liquid refrigerant it cannot compress and will be "slugged" and generally break a piston rod or do serious damage to the valves. Either way you are buying a new one and they are not cheap.

A compressor is a vapor pump. Liquid cannot be compressed and you might as well be dropping a chunk of steel in your cylinder.

My answer is the true purpose of an air filter in the return duct of your AC system. Dust mites I can deal with, but $1500 compressor on a 101° day is a different story.

the EEEEE sound changes when i rev the engine. is this normal. could it be the air filter <---(doubt it)???

If it's always been there then it's the fuel injection and pump. You may notice it making that sound momentarily as you first turn the key and kill switch to the on position.

air filter

How do I get to the air filter on my 2006 Chevy Cobalt SS?

The air intake tube goes into the driver side fender and I would like to maybe get a cold air intake, but first I want to get to the factory filter and see how dirty it is. The car has 24500 miles on it. I want the CAI to maybe get a few more horses out of the car before I install a nitrous kit on it. It is the 2.0 supercharged model.

Follow the black tube to a black box with clips on it it's in the black box flip the clips and lift the top up inside you will find the filter.

It is known that air pollution is a serious problem and it is taking place at the outdoors most of the time. However, studies have shown that indoor air pollution is also a severe problem and it is occurring at an amount much higher than the outdoors. One reason for the large quantity of pollution may be due to the poor ventilation in homes and buildings. This results in unhealthier air in such areas as compared to the outdoors. For those who are wondering why the indoor air is dirtier than the outside air, there are actually indoor air pollutants that cause the unclean air.

You might not realize that organic pollutants such as mold, dust mites and pollen exist everywhere in your home. These are harmful contaminants that can affect people with allergies or breathing problems. You may also breathe in the environmental pollutants like cigarette smoke, carbon dioxide or carbon monoxide unknowingly in your everyday life. They are constantly present in your indoor air and will definitely cause health problems in the long run.

The solution to lead a healthier life would be to get an air purifier for your home or any indoor environment that has poor ventilation. These purifiers work to eliminate allergens, toxic chemicals as well as other hazardous contaminants in the environment. There are different kinds of purifiers available in the market. One of them is known as the HEPA air purifier. It removes large unwanted particles such as dust and pollen as well as the smaller ones such as mold or dust mites. A HEPA filter is required to trap all those particles and remove them from the environment. To ensure that the purifier is working at its best and will last longer, you will have to replace the HEPA filter regularly. Ozone air purifier is another kind of purifier that can be easily found in the market. It is a great reactive oxidant that reduces certain bacteria and chemicals in the atmosphere. If the indoor environment is filled with strong odor, ozone purifiers are very effective in handling this problem. Ionic purifier works by ionizing the air. They do not have filters because they ionize the particles into positive or negative charge to purify it.

When buying purifiers, you have to consider the type of pollutants that you are facing. Getting the appropriate air purifier for your home or indoor environment will greatly increase the cleanliness of the air and make your breathing easier.

ionic air cleaner

Similar to an ozone cleaner, an ionic air purifier also uses an electrical charge to alter oxygen atoms in the air. There is often confusion between ionic air cleaners and ozone air purifiers. The main advantage of the former is that an ionic air cleaner will not only clear your home of odors and mildew, but also purge your air of dust and pollen.

What are ion air cleaners, exactly, and how well do they work?

The theory behind an ionic air purifier will take you back to your days in science class in high school. Most common household pollutants carry a positive charge. These are too light to settle on the ground or furniture, where they can be vacuumed or cleaned. They float about freely in the air that we breathe in our homes. What an ionic air cleaner does, is that it negatively charges the air particles in the room. Now, if you remember some high school science, you know that a positive charge and negative charge when brought close together will experience a magnetic attraction. And voila! As soon as the positively charged pollutant collides with the negatively charged anion, they bond together, becoming too heavy to remain airborne, and sink to the floor. Thus they are out of harmÂ’s way and can no longer be inhaled. Regular vacuuming and dusting can get rid of these particles.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, if properly used, these ionizers can lessen the amount of airborne dust in the room by over 50% and also diminish the airborne bacteria by 95%.

As compared to HEPA air filters, people who are concerned about noise pollution in their homes may prefer air ionizers as they are generally silent. HEPA air purifiers make more noise as they use a motorized fan to circulate the air to purify it. Ionic air purifiers, on the other hand, send out the ions or activated oxygen to purify the air, and hence are usually silent. Also, another advantage ionizers have over other purifiers is that its parts do not need regular replacement, as there are no physical filters. Even though most air ionizers don't have a motorized fan, the ionization creates a faint breeze that helps to distribute the ions throughout a room. Some are also outfitted with screens or prongs that catch the particles of dust as they fall to the ground.

Positive endorsements for the ionizer have come from many quarters. In an epidemiological study, it was found that repeated airborne infections of the bacteria acinetobacter in an ICU ward was totally wiped out with the installation of a negative air ionizer. Through the year long study, the infection rate fell to zero, disinfecting the air and thereby stopping the transmission of the infection.

Thus, keeping in mind your concern over noise, reliability and cost of purchase and maintenance, a low-cost ionic air purifier is a reasonably wise purchase.

air purifiers

If you suffer from allergies that are caused by something in the environment, you will benefit greatly from an air purifier. It is important first to realize that not all purifiers are good for allergies, and second that air purifiers typically don't help at all with allergies that are not related to the environment, such as a food allergy. With that said, let's take a look at the types of air purifiers that you will benefit from the most.

First, a dehumidifier is typically very good for someone who suffers from environmental allergies. Humidity makes conditions ripe for dust mites and such, so you want to dry the air as much as possible. At the same time, because the air is so dry, you will want to use a saline solution nose spray daily. Not all air cleaners or purifiers have dehumidifying capabilities. This means that you may need an air purifier and a dehumidifier.

Second, most doctors suggest that you avoid ionic air purifiers. These purifiers have been none to make allergies worse in many cases, and even to cause additional respiratory problems. The best purifiers will use a HEPA filter. This is very important if you suffer from allergies, as they are scientifically proven to trap just below 100% of all allergens in a household.

Take the size of your home into consideration as well, and read the information that is supplied about any purifier that you are considering to ensure that you purchase enough purifiers for your home. Moving air purifiers around your home with you - from room to room - is a real pain. Have enough purifiers to cover your entire home.

If you suffer from allergies associated with pets you should purchase purifiers that were designed with these allergies in mind. These typically use special HEPA filters that are more specifically designed to trap pet dander. The nice thing about these types of air purifiers is that they not only deal with household allergens and pet dander, but they also help to eliminate pet odor.

Many purifiers on the market today have filters that never need to be replaced. If you suffer from allergies, however, this isn't really what you want. You want to replace filters, and you want to do it fairly often to remove those allergens completely from your home. Also, even though a product claims that you will never have to change a filter, this really isn't true - eventually, that filter must be changed, or at the very least cleaned.

air cleaners filters

Honeywell Electronic air cleaners are unique and popular because they actually become a part of your central climate control system. A lot of people feel particularly good about this type of air purification because the air in the home does circulate through the ducts in the home fairly regularly thanks to heating and cooling processes.

As a result, installing the electronic air cleaner in the return air duct work near the furnace (the manufacturer's recommended location) insures that your air is constantly being filtered and cleansed to keep your family as healthy as possible. The filter's power is supplied by the furnace, and particles in the air are charged near the filter, then attracted using an opposite charge. This is far more effective than traditional filters that just pull air through because even tiny particles like smoke and dust - which could likely pass through most conventional filters - are trapped and held until cleaning.

As you can imagine, with an effective filtration system like this one the filters get pretty dirty. In other models, you might have to constantly change the filters and purchase new ones, but with Honeywell air cleaners the maintenance is far simpler. You can actually pull out the air filter, wash it by hand or in the dishwasher, then simply slide it back into place. Even better, while conventional air filters require monthly or even bi-monthly changes, the Honeywell electronic filters often will make it a full six months before they require changing or cleaning.

Another major benefit of this type of cleaner is the noise issue. Now, most air filters are simply not very loud. They create a low hum or buzz thanks to the fans that draw air through them. Some people even find this noise soothing and relaxing. However, white noise is not for everyone. If you have been avoiding purchasing an air filtration system because the noise drives you nuts, then this type of filter that goes directly into your air ducts will likely be the solution you have been waiting for.

Also, in a similar vein, many people avoid purchasing air filters because they do not like the look of them. It is hard to work a plain white box that hums into your home décor. A Honeywell air cleaner is one of the best options possible for people who do not want a visible air filter in their home.

Whether you're looking for an Oreck air purifier or an Ionic Breeze air purifier, it's important to do your research. Find the best brand for your family's health.
