Payne vs. Carrier air conditioner?

Our central air/heat pump needs replacing. The repair tech states that Carrier makes Payne (and Bryant) and uses the same parts. He claims we can save several $1000. Anyone have experience with Payne?

Yes I have installed many.They are just as good and have all the same warranties.
