I need info on the best air filters!?

I was wondering how a HEPA air filter works (not down at the molecular level but if you're supposed to plug it in somewhere and let it work it's magic). Also if you need to buy replacement filters or if you just need to clean it every couple of days and etc.

I have been using a Hepa air purifier in my home for going on 3 years now. It has worked great with little maintenance. It has a built in filter monitor that goes from green to red. It has a prefilter element that needs to be rinsed out in cold water every couple of months. The main filter lasts at least a year at a time , and only needs to be replaced when the monitor reaches red, indicating the need for a new one. It's been worth the money, and little time needed for its' benefits. Find a place, plug it in, let it work.
